The Lexus LX 700 That Can Stop AK-47 Fire
by AutoExpert | 13 May, 2026
At first glance, this Lexus LX 700 looks like any other blacked-out luxury SUV. That’s exactly what makes it interesting.
There are no obvious clues that Miami Armored has transformed this one into something far more serious. Beneath the standard-looking bodywork, it’s been upgraded to withstand 7.62 mm rifle rounds, including those fired from an AK-47, and even offers 360-degree protection against up to two hand grenade blasts.

To make that possible, the company reinforces the body with ballistic materials and replaces the standard windows with armored glass. The fuel tank, engine bay, and battery are also protected, so the SUV can keep moving even if those areas are targeted. Reinforced door hinges, a strengthened rear bulkhead, run-flat tires, and overlapping armor sections help eliminate weak points throughout the vehicle.

Buyers can go even further with options like night vision, a siren and PA system, LED strobe lights, reinforced bumpers, an oxygen filtration system, radiator protection, and a roof escape hatch. It’s the sort of equipment most owners will hopefully never need, but some clients won’t want to travel without it.

Under the hood, the LX 700 remains untouched. It keeps its 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid producing 457 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. Miami Armored says the added weight has only a modest effect on performance, which means this discreet-looking SUV still delivers the quiet confidence and effortless power the Lexus is known for, just with a much higher level of protection.
