Koenigsegg’s 1,600-HP CCGT1 Was Sold Out Before Anyone Even Saw It

A race car that never got to race has finally found its second life. Koenigsegg built the original CCGT for GT1 competition, only for the rules to change before it could enter a single event. Now that unfinished story has inspired the CCGT1, a road-going monster with up to 1,600 hp and enough downforce to make its giant rear wing look completely justified.

The CCGT1 starts with the CC850, but Koenigsegg changes almost everything around it. Only the doors and removable roof carry over.

The twin-turbo V8 produces 1,280 hp on pump gas or 1,600 hp on E85, while the redesigned aero package can generate up to 1,764 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. The active rear wing adjusts through 30 degrees and can switch between low-drag, high-downforce, and air-brake modes. Front vents, NACA ducts, a roof scoop, a reworked underfloor, and active flaps all help keep the car planted.

Koenigsegg also gives the CCGT1 a new take on its nine-speed Light Speed Transmission. The Koenigsegg Sequential Shift system needs the clutch only when pulling away, then lets the driver change gears without using it. Buyers can also choose the CC850’s gated six-speed manual. Inside, the new Ghost Fiber carbon fiber joins a third-generation Chronocluster with analog-style readouts and a G-meter. A factory track package adds slicks, racing seats, a roll cage, air jacks, fire suppression, and data logging.

Koenigsegg promises the quickest laps in its history, although it hasn’t revealed a track or time yet. Only 70 CCGT1s will exist, and everyone had already found a buyer before the reveal. The original CCGT never got its moment on a starting grid. The CCGT1 takes that same idea and finally gives it somewhere to go.
