Ford Is Finally Building The Bronco Pickup, And Jeep Has A Problem

Ford may finally be ready to turn the Bronco into more than an SUV. Rumors about a Bronco pickup have been around for more than six years, and new reports now point to the truck actually moving forward. If it happens, Ford will have a direct rival for the Jeep Gladiator and another way to cash in on the Bronco name.

The Bronco pickup should share its platform and off-road hardware with the SUV.

That could mean a 300-hp turbocharged four-cylinder or a 330-hp twin-turbo V6, while a Raptor version could reach 418 hp. Ford also plans a Bronco hybrid for 2027, so a hybrid pickup could join the range. G.O.A.T. drive modes, Trail Control, winch mounts, and off-road tires should also fit naturally into the truck’s formula.

Ford reportedly plans to build the pickup at its Michigan Assembly Plant, which will eventually focus on the wider Bronco family. A Bronco-based Lincoln SUV is also planned for 2029, giving the plant an even bigger role.

The new Ford Bronco pickup could also create some overlap with the Ranger, another midsize truck in Ford’s lineup. Ford could move the Ranger toward a more premium position while letting the Bronco pickup focus on buyers who want a more adventure-focused truck.

The move fits Ford’s bigger plan to turn major nameplates into full vehicle families. The company also works on a four-door Mustang, a smaller Transit and more F-Series models, while adding hybrids and EVs across the range. After the Bronco SUV finally outsold the Jeep Wrangler earlier this year, the timing feels right. Ford now has a strong name, a growing audience, and a truck-shaped opportunity sitting right in front of it.
