Airstream Teams Up With Pininfarina For New Luxury Trailer Designs

What happens when the people behind some of the world’s most beautiful Ferraris decide to redesign an American trailer? We’re about to find out. Airstream has teamed up with Pininfarina, and the partnership could give the iconic silver travel trailer its biggest design shake-up in years.
The two companies announced the deal during Monterey Car Week, calling it the start of a new chapter for Airstream. Pininfarina will explore how to bring its Italian design influence into Airstream’s luxury lineup while keeping the familiar character that made the trailers famous. Designers from the Italian studio have already visited Airstream’s U.S. facilities to learn about the brand, its history, and its products.
Don’t expect Airstream to suddenly abandon its rounded aluminum body and exposed rivets. Those details remain central to the brand, especially with its 100th anniversary coming up in 2031. Instead, the goal seems to be a careful update that makes the trailers feel more modern without turning them into something unrecognizable. Airstream has taken a similar approach with past collaborations, including projects with Studio F.A. Porsche, Pottery Barn, REI, Stetson, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
The companies haven’t revealed what they’re actually building yet, which might be the most interesting part. Pininfarina has decades of experience creating cars for Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo, while Airstream has spent generations perfecting the art of the travel trailer. Put those two together, and the first trailer to come out of this partnership could look very different from the Airstreams we know today.
