Audi Brought Back the A2 — And Turned It Into a 322-HP Electric Hatchback

Not everyone wants an electric SUV that takes up half the driveway. That’s where Audi’s new A2 e-Tron comes in. Shown at the Paris Motor Show, it brings back the A2 name with an electric powertrain, a clever cabin, and dimensions that make sense for everyday driving.
It’s not headed for the U.S. market, at least for now, but European buyers will get another option beyond the usual lineup of tall, chunky EVs.

The new Audi A2 e-Tron looks smaller than it actually is. At 170.1 inches long, it’s roughly Golf-sized, yet its 109.1-inch wheelbase is longer than the Volkswagen’s. The short hood, tall cabin, and cut-off rear end help give it that slightly quirky, almost miniature look.

Audi has put that space to good use. The flat floor helps free up legroom, while the dashboard leaves room for a small shelf on the passenger side. There are actual physical buttons, too - a welcome sight in an era when adjusting basic settings can feel like operating a tablet. A clever Fidlock system lets owners move cupholders and accessories around, while the trunk offers about 14 cubic feet of space. Fold the rear seats, and that grows to 47.2 cubic feet. A tiny front trunk adds another 0.5 cubic feet for smaller items.

There will be three battery options: 50, 58, and 79 kWh. Power starts at 168 hp and climbs to 322 hp in the strongest version. All models drive the rear wheels, and Audi hasn’t confirmed a Quattro variant. That top version could make this practical little hatch more entertaining than its sensible shape suggests. Prices start at around $44,000 in Europe, so the A2 e-Tron won’t exactly be a bargain-bin EV.
